Attractions along the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu




The Salkantay Trek is a hiking in south America and an alternative to the traditional Inca Trail for reaching Machu Picchu. It presents a unique combination of culture and mistic, with preserved proudly by the Peruvian people, and is an amazing adventure and extraordinary natural beauty. Salkantay trekking is set at the highest peaks of Humantay Mountain, where the cold ice of the mountains meets the steamy heat of the Andes.

The hike is surrounded by the historic Machu Picchu (National Park and is considered one of the 25 best hikes in the world). Salkantay trek is very diverse and rich geography hike, Andean culture and history. The Vilcanota Mountain range contains two twenty highest mountains in the Americas.

Apu SalkantaySalcantay or Salkantay (in Quechua) is the highest peak in the Vilcabamba mountain range, part of the Peruvian Andes. It is located in the Cusco Region, about 60 km (40 mi) west-northwest of the city of Cusco. It is the 38th-highest peak in the Andes, and the twelfth-highest in Peru. However, as a range highpoint in deeply incised terrain, it is the second most topographically prominent peak in the country, after Huascarán.

Llaqtapata

Chonta - Canyon of Condor


The "Canyon of Condor" is located in the Chonta community of the district of Limatambo in the province of Anta - Cusco.


To get to this natural viewpoint, which is located more than 3 thousand 400 meters above sea level (3400m ASL), there is an hour walk from the community of Chonta.

Along the trail, you can see natural attractions (landscapes, valleys and sacred mountains) that are located on the right margin of the Apurimac River.

Finally, you reach the Huaco Viewpoint where you can observe the majestic flight of the Andean condors in their natural state.

Flight of Condor Chonta Full day

Flight of Condor

The flight of the Condor in Cusco is located in the rural community of Chonta within Limatambo district, nestled between the mountains that shape a canyon, found in the ecological floor Puna where you can see a wonderful panoramic landscape, forests, lakes, rivers and see the flight of the condor who daily make their trip of the area attracting tourists visit. Currently, this site features a habitat of 200 condors.

ITINERARY


We start from your Cusco hotel in the morning for a full-day excursion of "The flight of the Condor" by Van, driving alongside the Anta plains. Visit the Moon ruins "Quillarumiyoc" and admire the views of the Limatambo valley below. 3 hours by Van to Chonta community 3,900 m / 12,795 ft., when we arrive we have to walk one hour to Condors Lookout viewpoint. We continue observing the flight of the Condor then to have a box lunch with great vistas. After the flight of the Condor, we will drive to the town of Limatambo. Return to Cusco.
